Dewitt, NY (March 22, 2007) – PHS formed a partnership with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in May of 2006 to aid in the support and maintenance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Vaccine Management System (VACMAN). VACMAN is a Database Management System used by 63 state and city government Immunization Programs across the U.S. It supports the ordering and distribution of vaccines for the Vaccines for Children Program.
The CDC is in the process of rolling out a new release of VACMAN (4.1.1) across the country. When it came time for California Department of Health Services to install the release, they requested a technical person work with them on-site to assist with implementing the 4.1.1 upgrade. In March 2007, the CDC selected Karen Ezzo, PHS Software Engineering Manager to represent the CDC and provide VACMAN 4.1.1 support to California.
Initially it was planned for Karen to be on-site for two days. At the end of the second day, even though the new release was successfully installed, it was evident the users were not 100% comfortable with the new version. Karen stayed an additional day at the request of the CDC to work with the users, answer questions, and resolve problems.
“At PHS, we strive to make the customer happy and comfortable with the applications we support. And as a representative of our client, I would not be satisfied delivering anything less.” said Karen Ezzo.
A letter of appreciation was sent to Karen by the Director of the Immunization Services Division, Lance E. Rodewald, MD, thanking her for her hard work and efforts.
An excerpt from the letter states, “Your technical expertise, can do demeanor, and ability to work with California as they transitioned to this new system, is highly commendable and made the distinct difference between success and failure.”
