New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) Since 2000, PHS has been working in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) and companies to develop and implement the consent-based New York State Immunization Information System. The primary objective of the NYSIIS project was to facilitate a significant increase in the proportion of children participating in a fully operational immunization registry within New York State. To accomplish this objective, PHS developed software applications including HealthyShot™ and implementation tools to facilitate the informational requirements of immunization registries and comprehensive methodology which ensured growth, stability, and the attainment of contract deliverables. PHS has been involved in many aspects of the NYSIIS project. Our team is involved in NYSIIS planning and management, coordinating with partners and stakeholders in the region, and ensuring that software implementation conforms to industry standards. Each one of these deliverables was successfully satisfied by PHS despite it being a voluntary program in New York State. Our contract responsibilities have grown from one region consisting of 14 counties to currently supporting four regions encompassing over 40 counties and 1,000 sites. Today this represents 545 public and privately installed sites, in addition to over 400 schools, and well over 1,500 trained end users. While the consent-based immunization registry environment presented great challenges to our team, our numbers speak for themselves. It did not hinder provider recruitment and retention performance. PHS continues to support the NYSIIS project in four regions across New York State through customer support, application development, maintenance, training, data quality projects, newsletters, user meetings, and as featured speakers at national conferences. We have also worked closely with the NYS DOH in writing their 2007 NYSIIS Strategic Business Plan. |
