Our strong presence in the immunization registry community has allowed us to establish a relationship with the Vermont Department of Health Immunization Registry Team. In 2006, PHS began working with the Vermont Team to provide guidance and support in several areas including development of a formal Immunization Registry Business Plan, implementing a statewide web-based application, and improving data quality.
PHS authored the Vermont Department of Health Immunization Registry Implementation Business Plan. This Business Plan included a vision statement, goals, objectives, a needs assessment, management and staffing plans, an implementation plan, timelines with action steps, key milestones, project monitoring, and a two year budget. We documented it in accordance with the National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC) approved Functional Standards for immunization registries and then submitted it for review by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As part of Vermont Immunization Registry’s implementation of the new web-based application, PHS assisted in updating their training documentation and User Guide. PHS also developed video training which is available via CD or web link. In addition to the training documentation, PHS worked with the Vermont Team on writing the Vermont Immunization Registry quarterly newsletters and will continue this project through 2007.
To assist the Vermont Team with data quality improvement efforts, PHS developed a stand-alone registry toolkit called Registat Plus. This application was created in accordance with the Vermont Department of Health’s specifications. The software is composed of two modules; a data quality module and a data interface module. The data quality module allows the Vermont Team to monitor their registry data to identify potential issues related to both patient and immunization data. The data interface module enables the Vermont Immunization Registry to easily interface with other information systems.
